Sexual harassment is a serious problem in schools today. Students who experience unwanted sexual advances often feel helpless because they do not know where to go to report the incident. They may also fear retaliation if they tell someone about what happened. In addition, students who are harassed often suffer emotional distress, including depression, anxiety, anger, humiliation, embarrassment, and self-doubt. These feelings can affect how well a person does academically and socially.

When You Need Justice

For many victims of childhood sexual abuse, receiving compensation isn't enough. They want to see the school employee or person responsible for their pain brought to justice. This is why they turn to the New Jersey law.

Many people don't realize it, but there are several ways to hold someone legally accountable for their actions. One way is to take them to file civil lawsuits an take them to court. A survivor might sue the perpetrator for damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, emotional distress, etc. Another option is to file a civil suit against the perpetrator. By filing sexual assault charges against the perpetrator, the alleged victim can seek compensation for their injuries and seek punitive damages.

Sexual abuse victims often feel like they're alone, but they aren't. There are organizations out there that provide support and assistance to those who've been victimized. Many states offer free counseling and advocacy services to help survivors deal with the aftermath of their abuse.

If you're ready to move forward and find peace, call us today. We'll connect you with a lawyer who can guide you through the process step-by-step.

Extended Statute of Limitations for NJ Sexual Abuse Claims

New Jersey residents who are sexually abused as children will now have up to 20 years to sue their abusers under new legislation signed into law by Governor Phil Murphy.

The bill, which passed both chambers unanimously, takes effect December 1, 2019, meaning that child sex abuse victims who suffer from delayed effects of trauma will finally have some justice.

Previously, New Jersey had one of the shortest statutes of limitations for such cases, allowing survivors to bring suit within three years of the incident. In 2017, however, the state legislature extended the statute to 10 years. However, the new law goes even further—it allows anyone whose childhood sexual abuse occurred prior to January 1, 2002, to file a lawsuit until they reach age 55.

Additionally, the law gives victims of childhood sexual abuse who suffered from delayed effects of trauma additional time to pursue legal action. These include those who experienced psychological damage due to the abuse, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, eating disorders, substance abuse, and low self-esteem.

Why Should I Hire A High School Sexual Abuse Lawyer?

The recent passing of a new law in New Jersey is a major step forward for sexual abuse survivors in the state. This new law, known as S.2109, is a civil law that protects sexually abused victims in New Jersey schools. The law provides a number of important benefits to sexual abuse victims in New Jersey.

A civil lawsuit may be the only way to seek justice for the pain and suffering caused by sexual abuse. Victims may not be able to prove criminal charges, but they can pursue a civil lawsuit. The new law also allows victims to file a civil lawsuit without fear of being punished for reporting the incident. This law applies to any person under the age of 18. It also applies to incidents that happened in New Jersey schools before January 1st, 2014.

The law also requires every New Jersey school to have a policy regarding reporting different forms of sexual abuse including aggravated sexual assault and to conduct training programs for staff and students.
