Arrowhead Village

Arrowhead Village is an unincorporated community within the Brick Township that is located in the northeastern region of Ocean County, New Jersey. The community is situated between two run-offs of Beaverdam Creek. Nearby communities within the vicinity are Point Pleasant, Cedarcroft, and Laurelton.

History

The many waterways attracted the first inhabitants to the area. The Lenni Lenape Native Americans camped along the shorelines creeks and Manasquan River. They found food in abundance, including:

  • oysters
  • clams
  • fish
  • wildlife

By the 1730s, the Natives had moved more inland, leaving behind the names Metedeconk, Manasquan, and Mantoloking. Many artifacts have been found along the creek and river's edge, possibly attributing to the community's name.

Early industries in the area included the following:

  • lumber
  • pinewood (charcoal and turpentine)
  • iron industry
  • cranberries and blueberry
  • poultry

Soon the location became a resort community, offering summer retreats for the city residents. The area offered the seasonal visitors the following amenities:

  • swimming
  • boating
  • saltwater bathing
  • crabbing
  • fishing

By the 1950s and the completion of the Garden State Parkway, many seasonal guests became year-long residents. The larger department stores and supermarkets replaced many general stores to accommodate the larger population. Many highways and roads were added to aid in travel to nearby communities like Cedarcroft and Point Pleasant.

Neighborhood

The community has several parks for the residents to enjoy. Midstreams Park lies along Beaverdam Creek and is a nature preserve. There is a basketball court for the community just off of Rainbow Drive on the western section of the preserve. Arrowhead Park, located at the corner of Green Tree Road and Village Way, has a playground for children to enjoy. New basketball courts are situated next to the ample parking that is available for the guests.

Children can attend the Midstreams Elementary School, located on Midstreams Road. The school rates are above the state average. Teacher to student ratio was at one teacher to eleven students for the 2020 school year.
