Located in the heart of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, Barclay Farmstead is called a living history museum, built in 1816 by Joseph Thorn, a Quaker farmer. The property spans at 32-acres and includes a renowned farmhouse filled with historical relevance and stories that are now told to the public.
Barclay Farmstead is owned and operated by Cherry Hill Township and is listed on the National & New Jersey Registers of Historic Places.
The Barclay Farmstead centerpiece stands a 16-room historic farmhouse that illustrates a variety of federal-style characteristics of architecture dating back to the American Revolution. A few focal points to look for are the flat brickwork all around the farmhouse as well as the symmetrical façade.
Originally, the property was approximately 168 acres of lush, green agricultural fields and forests but eventually became home to many early settlers around 1684.
While you visit the farmhouse, be sure to spend time wandering the natural trails and admiring the garden plots located all around the property. Guests are welcome all year round, and the Museum offers free admission for Cherry Hill residents. In addition to the many tours available, check out the variety of fun and educational activities and programs hosted by Friends of Barclay and volunteers.
