The personal injury attorney in Buena, NJ, at Garden State Justice Group has sponsored the following detailing the neighborhood's history.
The borough of Buena is located in the western region of Atlantic County in New Jersey. The 4,844.8-acre borough includes the unincorporated communities of Landisville and Minotola. Some of the neighboring towns are Newfield, Buena Vista Township, East Vineland, and Wheat Road. Some of the main roadways include Harding Highway, South Central Avenue, Forest Grove Road, and Weymouth Road.
One of the early property developers in the area was Charles Kline Landis. Landis began his career of developing towns in the 1850s with Colville. He was the mastermind behind Landisville, for which it was named Hammonton, Vineland, and Sea Isle City. Landis was educated as a lawyer but made his name within the area as a developer. He attempted to make Landisville the county seat and create a new county called Landis County, but the local residents opposed this idea calling him "King Landis."
The borough was incorporated in 1948 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. It took land from the neighboring Buena Vista Township. The name of both of these communities stemmed from the Mexican–American War, Battle of Buena Vista, that took place in 1847.
The borough is home to the Bellview Winery that was established in 1914. The family-owned and operated winery stemmed from the produce farm before planting its first vineyard in 2000. The winery opened to the local public the following year. The vineyard has grown to cover 40 acres and can produce as many as 8,000 cases of wine each year.
Another local attraction is the St. Padre Pio Shrine, located on Harding Highway in the Landisville section of the borough. Ron Angelo designed the shrine, a local artist, based on the ideas of Marie and Pete D'Andrea, Italian-American farmers within the community. The shrine sits on ten acres of land and stands four stories tall. Three statues and a glove from Saint Padre Pio can be seen at the site as well.
Within the borough was 4,603 resident, creating 1,723 households and 1,160 families as of the count in 2010. This was an astounding increase of 18.8% from 2000 following a decrease from 1990 to 2000 of 12.8%. The racial makeup of the borough was the following:
The annual income per household in the borough in 2010 was $53,060 and for a family was $60,398. Men averaged an annual income of $47,439, as women averaged $35,700.
