The township of Cedar Grove is situated in the northern section of Essex County in the state of New Jersey. The neighboring towns include Little Falls, Great Notch, North Caldwell, and Singac. The main roadways that travel through the town are Pompton Avenue, Grove Avenue, Bradford Avenue, Ridge Road, and Fairview Avenue.

The house was built in 1845 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. Along with the museum, the society operates an organic farm stand that is open each Saturday.
