Chesilhurst

The borough of Chesilhurst is located in the eastern section of Camden County, New Jersey. The town covers 1,100.8 acres and includes 0.12% water. Some of this water includes Wildcat Branch. The White Horse Pike cuts through the eastern section of the borough. Other roadways include Center Avenue, Washington Avenue, and Elm Avenue. 

History 

The borough was incorporated officially through an act of the state's legislature on November 26, 1887. It took land from Winslow Township and Waterford Township. 

Historical Landmark

The Grant African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, located on Washington Street and 4th Street, was constructed in 1896. The historic African American church has been a trademark to the community for over 125 years. The landmark was added to the historic places national register in 1977.

The community's children initially attended public schools within the Chesilhurst Borough School District. Shirley B. Foster Elementary School. However, after completing the 2008–09 school year, the district no longer operates any schools and sends all students to the Winslow Township School District. These schools include:

• Winslow Township Elementary School Two - located on 1st Avenue
• Winslow Township Middle School - located on Cooper Folly Road
• Winslow Township High School - located on Cooper Folly Road

Demographics

In 2010, the community included 1,634 people, 582 households, and 376 families. This was an increase of 7.5% since the count of 1,520 in 2000.
