Dumont

The borough of Dumont is situated in the central region of Bergen County in New Jersey. The town takes up 1,248 acres, and approximately 0.15% of that is water, such as the Hirshfeld Brook and the Haworth Brook. The neighboring communities are Bergenfield, Cresskill, Oradell, Haworth, Demarest, and New Milford. 

History

On July 20, 1891, the area was incorporated as a borough called Schraalenburgh. It took portions of land from the Palisades Township and the Harrington Township. It wasn't until 1898 that the area would be renamed in honor of the first mayor of the borough, Dumont Clarke. 

Neighborhood

The community is home to four major parks. Memorial Park, located off of Pershing Street. It is used for the community's little league baseball team and for the high school's baseball. The park offers its guests the following amenities:

• five ballparks
• one tennis court
• a basketball court
• a pavilion

Twin Boro Field is a field that has served the community for recreational football and soccer. Gina's Field, which is next to Twin Boro Feild, has two girls' softball fields and a playground. Fred Triplett Park is in the borough's center and was dedicated to a World War II soldier who died in battle in 1944. Across from this park is the Dawn M. Totten Memorial Field that offers residents another location with a softball field and a playground. 

The borough hosts many events and festivals, such as the following:

• Dumont Day, held in early September
• Octoberfest, held in early October
• The Dumont Winter Festival, held in December
• A Memorial Day Parade, held in May

According to the census in 2010, the borough had 17,479 residents, 6,364 households, and 4,678 families within its borders. The following is a breakdown of the resident's ethnicities:

• 0.18% Native American
• 14.99% Asian
• 0.02% Pacific Islander
• 4.06% other races
• 2.30% two or more races

The area's median income per household was $82,286 in 2010, an increase from $65,490 in 2000. An income for a family averaged $93,125 in 2010. Women had a median income of $45,965 versus $62,065 for men. Several of the common professions held by the employed adult residents included the following:
