Ellisburg, NJ, sits at the intersection of NJ Route 70 and King's Highway. This area consists of just under 580 acres of land and is part of Camden County. It is located less than a 20 minutes drive from Philadelphia. 

History

The community was named after the Ellis family that were early settlers. Not much is known about the family, but there are several prominent Ellis families within the state. Initially, the area was home to a tavern and a blacksmith. Residential development followed after the onset of regular stagecoach stops to the tavern.

Route 70 was once known as Cooper's Creek Road, named after Cooper's River that runs to the Delaware River. King's Highway was the former Haddonfield Moorestown Road. Haddonfield, a town south of Ellisburg, was named after Quaker John Haddon in the late 1600s. King's Highway is America's oldest road, extending 1,300 miles and named after King Charles II that controlled the area during that time.
