A Quick Introduction to the History of Fair Lawn, NJ

The slip and fall attorneys in Fair Lawn, NJ, at Garden State Justice Group have compiled some interesting details about the borough and its history.

Fair Lawn

The borough of Fair Lawn is situated in the midwestern section of Bergen County in the state of New York. The 3,340.8-acre town borders Glen Rock to the north, Eastside to the west, Saddle Brook to the south, and Paramus to the east. The Passaic River flows along the borough's western edge, while Saddle River flows along its eastern boundary.

History

The earliest settlers in the area were peaceful hunters who helped make up the Lenni Lenape Native American tribe. They sold their land to the Dutch and Irish immigrants.

The borough was incorporated in 1924, taking land from the Saddle River Township. One of the first planned communities was Radburn and was established in 1929 as the town for the motor age. The borough has been voted as one of the top ten places to live in the state.

An NJ Transit train derailed in 1982, crashing into a pasta factory. The train's engineer died as a result. Officials contributed the derailment to some teens that vandalized the tracks. Of the five involved, two were convicted and served five-year sentences.
