Lindenwold

The borough of Lindenwold is situated in the center of Camden County in the state of New Jersey. The 2,521.6-acre borough contains 25.6 acres of water, such as Kirkwood Lake, in the northernmost region. Echelon is to the north of the borough, while Clementon is to the south. Laurel Springs and West Berlin are also neighboring communities. Some of the main roadways within the community include Berlin Road, Egg Harbor Road, East Gibbsboro Road, Laurel Road, and Chews Landing Road. 

History

The town was incorporated into a borough on April 23, 1929. It held its first official meeting on May 31 in the Fire Hall located on Berlin Road and Linden Avenue. The name came from the suggestion of Wimer Bedford, a local resident. Bedford had been reading a German book that included influenced his suggestion, as it translated into linden woods. He even suggested having linden trees planted in the community but was overruled based on cost.

The town provides its residents a variety of recreation, including:

The neighborhood had a population of 17,613 in 2010. This consisted of 7,426 households and 4,211 families. The racial breakdown of the residents was the following:

  • 20.85% Hispanic or Latino
  • 0.44% Native American
  • 2.80% Asian
  • 0.02% Pacific Islander
  • 10.34% other races
  • 3.65% two or more races
