Mountain View

The community is located in Wayne Township in Passaic County, New Jersey. Some of the other communities that help form the township include Barboours Mills, Lower Preakness, and Point View. Route 202 connects with Alps Road in the town's center. Other roadways in the neighborhood include New Street and Meadow Road. Fairfield is southwest of the area, and Packanack Lake is to its northeast.

History of the Railroad

In 1869 railroad construction began in the town just as the Morris and Essex Railroad started to build a freight line. The station served on the Boonton Branch of the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad. It was 20.8 miles from the terminus at Hoboken Terminal along the Hudson River. It was 12.8 miles from the western terminus at Denville that allowed connections with Morris and Essex Railroad.

The other station was one of the two constructed in Wayne that served the New York and Greenwood Lake Railway, ran by the Erie Railroad. In 1960 the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western lines merged with the Erie Railroad. The other station's service was cut back and this one, located on Erie Avenue, became the primary hub for the Wayne area. One of the two tracks served the Boonton Line and traveled to Lincoln Park, while the other became a transfer for the Wanaque-Midvale shuttle. Although some of the track south of Pequannock was removed, the station remains as the sole track through Mountain View.
