Spring Lake Heights

The borough of Spring Lake Heights is situated in the southeastern section of Monmouth County in the state of New Jersey. The 851.2-acre borough has 2.26%, or 19.2 acres, of water, such as the North Branch Wreck Pond Brook and Polypod Brook. The neighboring communities that share a border with the borough are West Belmar, Lake Como, Osbornes Mills, and Sea Girt. 

History

The community is named after Spring Lake, named for its crystal clear spring-fed water. It was officially incorporated as a borough in 1927, taking portions of Wall Township. In 2008, New Jersey Monthly Magazine rated it 28th for the best place to live in the state. 

Neighborhood

The neighborhood is home to several golf courses. The Spring Lake Golf Club, located on Warren Avenue, was established in 1898. The clubhouse was built on the 118-acre property that was formerly the Thompson Farm in 1909. George C. Thomas, Jr. designed the course. It was only the third course he had designed, and he had help from Scottish golfer George Duncan. 

Just north is the Fairway Mews Golf Course & Community, located on Clubhouse Drive. The community covers 112 acres and is home to 560 homes.  Within the gates of the community, the residents have access to the following in addition to the 18-hole golf course:

• heated swimming pool
• bocce court 
• tennis courts

The community is home to several parks as well, including:

• Veterans Tribute Park - located on Allaire Road
• Joseph E. Robertson Park - located on Allaire Road
• Ocean Road Park - located on Ocean Road

Demographics

The borough was home to 4,713 residents in 2010. They helped to make up the 2,316 households and 1,202 families within the borough. This was a decrease of 9.8% from the count in 2000. The ethnic breakdown of the townspeople was the following:

• 96.61% white
• 0.64% African American
• 3.29% Hispanic or Latino
• 0.15% Native American
• 1.08% Asian
• 0.02% Pacific Islander
• 0.47% other races
• 1.04% two or more races

The community is an upper-middle-income neighborhood. The median income was $72,083 per household in 2010, an increase from $51,330 in 2000. The most common occupations held by the working adults in the area included: 

• 14.7% management
• 13.9% administrative
• 11.8% sales
• 9.2% business
• 7.3% food service
• 6.9% education
