Albion Place is a community located in the northern section of Clifton in Passaic County, New Jersey. The main roadways in the town are New Jersey Route 19, which forms the eastern border, Valley Road, Fenner Avenue, and Broad Street.
In the most northern section of the town, located on the Garret Mountain Reserve, is the Lambert Tower and Castle. The Lambert Castle Museum was once home to Catholina Lambert, a wealthy English immigrant. Lambert was born in Yorkshire, England but came to America in 1851. He settled in Boston and worked for a silk manufacturer before becoming a partner and owning a portion of the company shares. His continued success provided him much wealth and afforded him to build up an extensive collection of antiques and art.
In 1892, he began construction on his castle-inspired home and the Belle Vista now referred to as the Lambert Castle. He held a large celebration for the event that included as many as four hundred guests. Economy downfalls would force Lambert to sell his art and antique collection, but he would remain in the castle until he died in 1923, predeceased by two wives and seven of his eight children. The castle now serves as a museum and library managed by the Passaic County Historical Society.
