Bradley Beach

Bradley Beach, New Jersey, is a borough in Monmouth County. The town is 75.1 miles north of Atlantic City, taking the Garden State Parkway up the coast. It lies on the Atlantic Ocean, with Sylvan Lake forming its southern border and Lake Terrace lining its northern edge. The main roadways are Ocean Avenue, Main Street, and Brinley Avenue. 

History

The borough was named after the wealthy Manhattan developer James Adam Bradley. Along with William B. Bradner, Bradley purchased 54 acres of land known at the time as Ocean Park and part of the Ocean Township. Despite the appeal from the citizens, the area was separated from the township and was officially incorporated in 1893. In 1925 the New Jersey Legislature would confirm the town a borough. 

Neighborhood

In the late 1960s, the area was home to the well-known rock musician Bruce Springsteen. Along with his fellow bandmates, Lopez, his drummer, and Federici, his keyboardist, he moved to the area.  Springsteen and his girlfriend, Diane Lozito, rented a garage apartment in a house off 5th Avenue. He was born just 8.3 miles north in Long Branch and would go on to write many of his songs about New Jersey. In this apartment in Bradley Beach, he would write the song "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)."
