The slip and fall attorneys in Linden, NJ at Garden State Justice Group have shared the following interesting details about the community and its history.
The city of Linden is situated in the southeastern section of Union County in the state of New Jersey. Many waterways flow within or alongside the neighborhood, including Rahway River, Morses Creek, Pralls Creek, and Marshes Creek. The neighboring communities are Carteret, Elizabethport, Roselle, Elizabeth, and Cranford. The main roadways in the city are New Jersey Route 9, the New Jersey Turnpike, West St Georges Avenue, and West Elizabeth Avenue.
The city was initially incorporated as a township in 1861, borrowing land from Elizabeth, Rahway, and Union Township. On January 1, 1925, it became a city by an act of the New Jersey Legislature and formerly replaced the Linden Borough and Linden Township. It was named after linden trees that were imported from Germany.
Within the neighborhood is the Linden Airport, a small general aviation facility. The airport was initially built in 1942 for the United States Navy to use to develop and test the Grumman F4F Wildcat. However, following World War II, the City of Linden took over its operation.
The neighborhood is home to the large cemetery, the Rosehill Rosedale, which was flooded in 2012 during Hurricane Sandy by an oil-soaked tidal surge stemming from the Bayway Refinery.
On the edge of the Rahway River is the Hawk Rise Sanctuary. This 95-acre bird sanctuary was created by the New Jersey Audubon Society and the City of Linden in 2012. It was formed upon an old landfill. Along the edge is a scenic walking trail system that includes a boardwalk as it winds through the Hawk Rise forest. Over 163 species of birds have been seen in the area.
In 2010 the community was home to 40,499 people, which included 14,909 households and 10,272 families. This was an increase of 2.8% from the census in 2000, which counted 39,394 people. The racial breakdown of the residents was the following:
