North Caldwell

North Caldwell is a borough located in the northern region of Essex County, New Jersey. The town covers 1964.8 acres, with the Green Brook running through the center. The town is 22.9 miles from New York City and 21.7 miles from Manhattan. The main roadways include Mountain and Central Avenue. 

History

Dutch settlers purchased 14,000 acres from the Lenape Native Americans in 1702. The area of present-day North Caldwell was part of this acquisition that included the majority of Essex County. In order to take advantage of more government financial aid, the area broke off into a township in 1982. In 1992 it officially became a borough. 

Neighborhood

The area is predominantly a white-collar neighborhood with 96.92% of the working adults employed as professionals, executives, or managers. As many as 73.32% of the residents have obtained a bachelor's degree or higher. The annual median for the household income was $151,953 in 2010, an increase of $34,558 since 2000. The occupational breakdown is as follows:

Places of Interest

The creator of The Sopranos, David Chase, was born in North Caldwell in 1945. It is no wonder that he would create some of the set on location in the area. The character Johnny Sacramoni's house from the show was an actual house located on Fox Run, near Hilltop Reservation. Tony Soprano's on-set house is located off Aspen Drive, just 1.6 miles north of Johnny Sack's. The house was listed for sale for $3.4 million, but no records indicate that it sold.
