Cherry Hill is a larger, well-known township in Camden County, New Jersey, with a population of about 71,000, as stated in the 2010 census. After being the state's 13th most populated municipality in the 2000 Census, the township was the state's 15th most populous municipality in 2010 and the second-largest in Camden County.
The Lenni-Lenape Native Americans lived in the region that is now known as Cherry Hill until being replaced by the first immigrants from England, namely Quaker followers of William Penn, who came in the late 17th century. The first settlement was a small community of homes that was called Colestown, located along the intersection of Route 41, now known as King's Highway and Church Road.
The municipality was founded in 1844, and nearly 100 years later, the township's population grew exponentially after World War II and continued throughout the 1980s. The municipality population is now steady, with new construction mostly taking place in clusters of model luxury homes or through the restoration and sustainable reuse of commercial and industrial areas.
Cherry Hill has an extensive list of schools, both public and private, in the township. The Cherry Hill public schools serve students from pre-k through 12th grade, with 19 schools total, including a pre-k center, 12 elementary schools, three middle schools, and three high schools. Cherry Hill is the state's 12th largest school district and one of the state's largest residential districts.
Private schools available for students consist of The Roman Catholic Diocese of Camden that runs Resurrection Regional Catholic School, a Pre-K to 8 elementary schools that was formed by the merger of St. Peter Celestine School and Queen of Heaven School, as well as Camden Catholic High School, which serves grades 9–12.
