The neighborhood of Wellwood is located in the borough of Merchantville in the northern section of Camden County in New Jersey. The community shares borders with Pennsauken Township, Stockton, Rosedale, and Colwick. The main roads that travel through the area are North Centre Street, East and West Chestnut Avenue, Park Avenue, Cove Road, and East and West Maple Avenue.

The area was mainly farmland until 1851, when the extension of the railroad brought in development. Homes in the area began developing along Maple Avenue following the opening of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge in 1926. The avenue was constructed upon a ridge and offered the community "pure" air.

In 1928, the area became the home of Wellwood Manor. Using Tudorbethan style or Tudor revival architecture, the brick residence became a charming addition to the many other architectural structures. The manor underwent a complete renovation in 2012 that included a new fountain in the courtyard inspired by Rialto Bridge in Venice, Italy, as well as:

  • recovering the original hardwood floors
  • marble for the bathroom floors
  • new tile in the bath and showers
  • entrance doors that were replicas to the original
  • high-efficiency windows

The neighborhood is home to Wellwood Park, located between West Maple Avenue and Myrtle Avenue. The park has a playground, picnic tables, tennis courts, shaded benches, and an athletic field.
