White Meadow Lake

The unincorporated community of White Meadow Lake is situated within Rockaway Township inside Morris County, New Jersey. The community takes up 2,763.52 that includes 10.92%, or 301.44 acres of water. The main bodies of water are Mill Pond and the 141-acre White Meadow Lake, which is located in the heart of the community. Some of the nearby communities include Rockaway, Hibernia, Lake Telemark, and Meriden. 

History

The community surrounds the lake that was once known as Muir's Pond, named after Col.Thomas Muir, who lived in the area from 1825 until he died in 1855. However, the name White Meadow traces back to recordings from 1774 when a survey of 1500 acres was taken. The pond disappeared by 1887 and was replaced with swampland. It was a dam constructed by the Fish and Game Club that formed the present lake. 

Initially, the community was part of Pequannock County, but in 1738  joined Morris County. When Morris County split the larger townships into smaller ones, it helped to form Rockaway Township in 1844. 

Neighborhood

The homeowners within the neighborhood are members of the POA, or Property Owners Association, which was established in 1948. The purpose of the POA, which cost $685.00 per household in 2018, was to fund the ownership and maintenance of the lake, including the amenities offered to the homeowners, such as:
