Whitesville

The neighborhood of Whiteville is located within Neptune Township and is part of Asbury Park. It is situated in the eastern region of Monmouth County, New Jersey. It is 2.4 miles from Asbury Park Beach and Boardwalk. Bangs Avenue separates it from West Grove, located to the south of the community. Hollow Brook and Deal Lake run along the northern region. 

History

The area was developed by James A. Bradley in 1871. In addition to North Asbury, it made up the borough of Asbury Park and was a resort town that lay along the state's coast. Bradley was a wealthy business owner from Manhattan but moved to the area and became the postmaster from 1874 to 1884. He established the area's first sewage system in 1881, along with gas and waterworks in 1884. He served on the New Jersey Senate, representing the county in 1894.

As of 2010, the town's population, in addition to the other communities that make up Asbury Park, was 16,116, which consisted of 6,725 households and 3,174 families. This was a decrease of 4.8% from 2000. The racial makeup of the combined area was the following:

  • 25.53% Hispanic or Latino
  • 0.48% Asian
  • 0.49% Native American
  • 0.12% Pacific Islander
  • 7.64% other races
  • 3.46% two or more races

The median household income was $33,527 in 2010, increasing from $26,370 in 2000. The occupational makeup of the area is the following:
