Windsor Park

The neighborhood of Windsor Park is located within the Township of Cherry Hill in Camden County, New Jersey. The area is just north of Barclay and east of Cherry Hill Estates. The main roadways within the community are Chapel Avenue, Kings Highway North, and Church Road. 

History

The first inhabitants of the area were the Lenni-Lenape Native American Indians. In the late 17th century, William Penn arrived with other European settlers. Penn came to America with other fellow Quakers to flee the religious persecutions they faced in England. The first area to be developed with a few homes was Colestown, located in the area that is now the Colestown Cemetery. The settlement was within the southern region of the area now known as Windsor Park. 

The cemetery was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Some notable people that are buried in the area include:

  • 1816 - 1894 - Alexander G. Cattell - a representative from New Jersey in the U.S Senate from 1867 to 1871
  • 1849 - 1924 - Charles G. Garrison - justice on the New Jersey Supreme Court 
  • 1817 - 1888 - Alfred Hunt - the first president of Bethlehem Iron Company before it became Bethlehem Steel
  • 1917 - Samuel Coles - the founder of the hamlet Colestown

Places of Interest

Within the small community is Gregory Dalessio Park, located just off of Roosevelt Drive. The park offers the community a gated place for children to enjoy the many features of the playground. 

There are also many schools located in the neighborhood. Some of these include:

  • Resurrection Catholic School 
  • Joyce Kilmer Elementary School
  • Carusi Middle School

The average home price in the area is $292,218, and rent averages at about $1,579. This suburban neighborhood primarily consists of homes that were built before 1969. 

The  majority of the residents work in white-collar professions, and the occupational breakdown is the following:

  • 45.5% executive, management, and professional roles
  • 25.0% sales and service occupations
  • 15.7% clerical and technical support positions
  • 13.7% manufacturing and laboring jobs
