The neighborhood of Woodcliff is located in the northeastern section of the North Bergen Township in Hudson County, New Jersey. Commodore de Kay once owned a portion of the land that is the present-day Woodcliff. In the early 1900s, the area was developed by the Woodcliff Land Improvement Company. Hamilton V. Meeks organized the development process in 1891. Meeks was a successful businessman in Hudson County. He was the president of Gardner & Meeks Company, which controlled large lumber interests at Guttenberg and Union Hill. After organizing the neighborhood, Meeks became the secretary and treasurer of the area. The construction of Grand Boulevard cost $3,000,000 and runs to the edge of Woodcliff, lying on the crest of the Hudson Palisades. From this elevated point, you can see a remarkable view of the New York City skyline.
During the Revolutionary War, Meeks owned property across from one of Washington's headquarters. His wife was an interpreter for Washington and Lafayette during their stay.
The North Hudson County Park takes up the majority of the neighborhood, stretching across 167 acres. The park also referred to as James J. Braddock Park, is the home to the 16-acre Woodcliff Lake. There are 45 athletic facilities for the residents and visitors to use. In 1910 the park was established and named in honor of James J.
