Arlington

Arlington is a community located within the town of Kearny and situated in the western region of Hudson County, New Jersey. North Arlington is just north of the neighborhood across the Belleville Turnpike. The main roadways in the area are Schuyler Avenue, Kearny Avenue, and Midland Avenue. The Passaic River flows along the western section of the town, and the Hackensack River is to its east.

History

The area was originally part of the Crown Grant awarded to Major William Sandford in 1668 that consisted of 30,000 acres. The stretch of land was purchased from the Hackensack tribe for 20 pounds of sterling. In 1708, Major Nathaniel Kingsland purchased the upper western section that included this area. Also included in this purchase were the towns of Kearny, North Arlington, Lyndhurst, and Kingsland.

The Arlington Company, a subsidiary of the E. I. DuPont de Nemours Company, was previously known as the Puraline Manufacturing Company, purchased land near the Erie Railroad. The area was named after the Arlington Station on the Erie Railroad near the Arlington Mill plant. Arlington Mills from Massachusetts owned the plant.

However, rent is lower than more than 74% of the other state's communities and runs $1,916 per month. Most of the homes in the area were built before 1939, making it a relatively historic community.

The area is home to the Roosevelt Elementary School, located on Kearny Avenue and Stewart Avenue. The school has the smallest school body and is ranked 3rd for elementary schools in the Kearny School District.
