The borough of Collingswood is located in the northern region of Camden County in New Jersey. The borough covers 1,248 acres, of which 5.9% or 76.8 acres is water. Cooper River Lake flows along the northeastern border to the borough as Newton flows along the southwestern border. The Lenape Native Americans were the original settlers in the area before the Quakers came in the late 17th century. The English and Irish settled along Cooper River and Newton Creek. In 1888, a wealthy businessman and town resident by the name of Edward Collings Knight donated the land that became the 70-acre Knight Park located in the heart of the town. Knight was not only known for his wealth from sugar, but he also was established in the areas of real estate and the railroad. He was a descendant of the founding Collings family.
The main highlight of the neighborhood is Knight Park, located in the town's center off of West Collings Avenue. The 70-acre park surrounds a small lake.
