The township of Maple Shade is situated in the northwestern region of Burlington County in the state of New Jersey. The township takes up 2,451.2 acres, of which less than 6.4 acres is water. The Chesterford Schoolhouse, located on Main Street, was built around 1811 and is one of the few well-preserved schools from the 19th century in the state of New Jersey. It was a one-room brick schoolhouse, also known as the Little Red Schoolhouse. The school served the early residents of the township for 97 years but closed in 1909.
