The unincorporated community known as Sicklerville is located within the Winslow Township. The Atlantic City Expressway and Sicklerville Road run through this area.
In 1754 the Zeigler brothers, Christopher, John, and Jacob, would move into the area from Germany. In order to anglicize their name, they changed it to Sickler. Christopher Zeigler would settle in Chews Landing and have a son in 1765. His son John would be the first to settle in the area that would later become Sicklerville. The area had an abundance of cedar and pine trees that the residents would use to make charcoal. The charcoal was taken to Philadelphia and used to heat ore and produce metal. The trees would eventually diminish, and the town became farmland. John built his home out of cedar sometime after 1790. He would pass away in 1839 but not before having twelve children. Three of his children were boys that would go on to help develop the farming community.
One of John's sons, William, donated one acre to build a Methodist church in 1837. Prior to the church being built, residents gave sermons in their homes. The Sicklerville Methodist Church still stands today located on 406 Church Road and is the oldest church.
Paul Sickler opened a general store in 1865. In 1874 he added the town's first Post Office inside the store with a sign that read Sicklerville. However, the Williamstown Branch of the Philadelphia and Atlantic Railroad had built a station in the area, and its sign read Sicklertown. It would not be until a few years that Sicklerville would reign as the final name of the neighborhood.
In addition to the Sicklerville Methodist Church, there were several other historic places of worship in the area, including:
