The neighborhood of Boynton Beach is located within Sewaren, helping to form Woodbridge Township in Middlesex County, New Jersey. It lies along Arthur Kill. The main roadways are Woodbridge Avenue, Bridge Street, East Summit Avenue, and Austin Street. The nearby communities include Port Reading, Maurer, Avenel, and Perth Amboy. 

History

C.W. Boynton And The Boynton Family originally owned the waterfront area of the town of Sewaren, hence the naming of the neighborhood. They were a wealthy industrialist family that became wealthy off the resources of the area. The Boynton Clay And Fire Brick Company and the Boynton Lumber Company are just two of the companies they owned and operated in the area. 

The neighborhood became a resort community attracting people from all over. Some of the activities they offered the guests included:

  • a large pavilion to watch regattas
  • swim competitions
  • card playing parties 
  • festive parties

The Shell Oil Company purchased most of the land in the neighborhood in 1928. Many jobs were created, but at the same time, the popularity of the resort community died.

The neighborhood is mainly residential and offers a few amenities for its residents, such as:
