Abraham Brotman was the founder of the town. He traveled from Brooklyn to open up his clothing factory in order to supply the Jewish community with the jobs they needed to provide a standard living. Farming was common in the Jewish colonies but the clothing factory, began by Brotman's great-grandfather, was a way they could pay down their debts. Many of the other factories in business from the late 1800s to the early 1900s used immigrants as cheap labor, preventing them from getting ahead financially.
Brotman build homes that the Jewish immigrants could afford and offered them a nurturing community while aiding them to learn new skills. He also provided a way for them to learn the English language. As many as 60 families relied on the clothing factory.
Abraham and his wife, Minnie, had eleven children. Among their descendants was Hon. Stanley Brotman from the U.S. District Court of New Jersey. Stanley attended Harvard Law School and served in the Military during World War II. Stanley takes pride in being a part of naturalization ceremonies knowing that his foreign-born grandparents helped to build up the community.

With all the crops being harvested it is no doubt that the family-owned Weaver's Farm Market has been around since 1978. The market is located on Garden Road in front of their many fields containing tomatoes, watermelons, and strawberries.
