Erial

The unincorporated community is located in the southwestern section of Camden County, New Jersey. It is part of Gloucester Township, along with eleven other unincorporated communities, such as Pine Hill and Somerdale. Hickstown Road forms the northern border, and Kearsley Road creates the eastern edge. The main roadways that cross through the center of the town are New Brooklyn Erial Road and Garwood Road. 

History

The community is located in the township that became the first political subdivision in the county in 1685. The area shares the Sicklerville Post Office that was established in 1874 with Paul H. Sickler as the first postmaster. 

Neighborhood

The area is home to real estate predominantly built between 1970 and 1999, with a few dating back further than 1940. Home prices in the area average $219,095, which is less than 85.0% of other neighborhoods in the state. Rent is also lower than 85.3% of nearby communities and runs approximately $1,648 per month. However, most households in the area are made up of homeowners, and 98% of the real estate consists of free-standing single-family homes. 

The annual household income for the town was $79,746 in 2010, which was an increase from $61,366 in 2000. The occupational breakdown of the employed residents in the town was:

• 27.8% executive, management, and professional occupations
• 25.8% sales and service jobs
• 24.8% manufacturing and laborer occupations
• 21.5% clerical, assistant, and tech support occupations

Erial Concrete was established in 1978 and offered employment to the residents. 

Education

The area is home to several schools that offer education to the residents. Some of these include:

• Erial Elementary School - founded in 1930 and located on Essex Avenue
• The Malvern School of Erial - founded in 1998 and located on Erial Road 
• Erial Community Church Christian School - founded in 1984 and located on New Brooklyn Erial Road
• James W. Lilley Elementary School - located on Williamstown Erial Road

Demographics

In addition to the other communities that form the Gloucester Township, the population was 64,634, which consisted of 23,566 households and 16,873 families in 2010. The racial makeup of the area was the following:

• 75.80% white
• 16.19% African American
• 5.65% Hispanic or Latino
• 3.67% Asian
• 0.20% Native American
• 0.03% Pacific Islander
• 1.83% other races
• 2.28% two or more races

English is spoken by 92.1% of the area's population, but 1.4% speak Urdu, the national language of Pakistan. Spanish and Polish are also spoken by some of the townspeople. The ancestral makeup of the neighborhood is the following:

• 24.15 Italian
• 20.4% German
• 10.4% English
• 8.7% Polish
