Union Mills

Union Mills is a populated place within Hainesport Township that is situated in the northern region of Burlington County, New Jersey. New Jersey Route 38 runs through the center of the neighborhood. Other roadways in the area include Fostertown Road, Hainesport Mt Laurel Road, Union Mills Road, and Creek Road. Masonville and Rancocas Woods are to the north of the community, while Mt Laurel Township and Fostertown are to the south. 

History

The Lenape Native American Indians were the first to settle in the area. They had encampments along the Rancocas Creek, just northeast of the community. Masons Creek flows from the South Branch of Rancocas Creek into the neighborhood. The Quakers were the first European settlers that came into the area in 1677.  

Neighborhood

The neighborhood is home to the Roosevelt Paper Company. The company was founded over 87 years ago and is still a family-owned business. It was founded by Irving S. Kosloff and is run today by Ted and David Kosloff. 

On Fostertown Road is a neighborhood attraction, the Igloo Ice Rink. The rink was founded in 2003 and is dedicated to developing hockey players and figure skaters of all ages.

Demographics

In addition to the greater area, the population of the region was 6,110 in 2010. This consisted of 2,239 households and 1,726 families. This was an outstanding increase of 48.1% since 2000, following an increase of 27.0% from 1990 to 2000. The racial makeup of the greater area was the following:

  • 84.78% white 
  • 7.50% African American
  • 5.07% Hispanic or Latino
  • 0.10% Native American
  • 4.08% Asian
  • 0.00% Pacific Islander
  • 1.42% other races
  • 2.13% two or more races

English is the predominantly spoken language, followed by Spanish and Langs. of India. Some common ancestries found in the community include:

The income median for the household in the area was $87,047 in 2010. Men averaged an income of $64,477 while women averaged $40,658. The occupational breakdown of the working resident was the following:
